Freelance Creative Writer

BaseNYC is looking for experienced freelance creative writers to help shape how brands express themselves—through their voice, personality, and point of view.  

More than a copywriter, you’re a builder of brand personalities. You can inhabit different voices and move effortlessly between brands, industries, and audiences. You’re equally comfortable defining a tone of voice as you are writing a manifesto, script, headline, or social post. You think strategically, write creatively, and understand how language can make a brand feel alive. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop distinctive brand personalities and verbal identities.
• Define tone of voice and messaging frameworks.
• Write across every stage of the brand experience—from strategy to activation.
• Collaborate closely with strategists and designers to bring brands to life.
• Translate complex ideas into language that feels simple, memorable, and emotionally resonant.
• Adapt your writing style to fit every brand, never relying on a single voice.

Requirements:

• An exceptional writing portfolio demonstrating range across different voices, industries, and formats.
• Experience in branding, advertising, publishing, editorial, screenwriting, journalism, or related creative disciplines.
• The ability to think strategically and write creatively.
• A collaborative mindset and genuine curiosity.
