To support our expanding team, Base New York is actively seeking qualified Senior Brand Strategists. Your primary role as Senior Brand Strategist will be to lead the definition phase of a project (via research and analysis) to ultimately synthesize + distill all information into a ‘north star’ + personality for a brand, and then translate this into a differentiating brand narrative that engages audiences and establishes a unique position for the brand in the market. In shaping the narrative, your work will align the project stakeholders and act as a jump start for the creative phase.

We are currently searching for both full-time and freelance candidates. For freelance candidates, we are open to remote work for US-based candidates. For full-time candidates, we are currently working in a hybrid model and would expect candidates to be able to join us in the office at least three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Be strategically creative & creatively strategic: Help clients define and solve complex communication challenges by clarifying the essence of the brands and understanding the bigger strategic picture.
  • Conduct discovery & research: As the owner of strategy, you are responsible for understanding the context, synthesizing briefs, and evaluating client needs, challenges and opportunities. Additionally, you will lead qualitative research and workshops to contextualize the strategy work.
  • Crystalize insights: Structure the information gathered during the workshop and the research phase. Synthesize, find clarifying insights to arrive at articulation of the ‘north star’ + brandplatform (mission, vision, values, beliefs, USP, personality) of the brand.
  • Define the brand story: Translate the ‘north star’ into an ownable brand story and key messaging with a brand tone of voice. At times, this activity is lead by you by being hands-on or by working with a copywriter.
  • Develop a "transversal concept": In collaboration with the lead designer, you will work to translate ‘the north star’ into a transversal concept to bridge strategy and design.
  • Defend and manage the project: Be the day-to-day design representative to clients (for the strategy phase) and build relationship of trust. When interacting with clients, be persuasive in defending ideas, and interact with them through clear communication, leadership, and branding knowledge. Additionally, you will coordinate project needs within the budget, planning, and resources together with PM.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years creative experience

  • Both highly-skilled & well-rounded (across all channels of graphic design and identity systems, and in many platforms, from digital to physical)
