Biography

Dan Howarth uses his sharp eye, articulate writing and love of storytelling to help creative companies develop engaging editorial content. The British design writer, editor and consultant has lived on four continents, but ended up in NYC to live out his ‘Friends’ fantasy (although will never stop drinking tea).

Before joining Base in 2021, Dan oversaw written communications for MINI-backed initiatives A/D/O and URBAN-X. During a long tenure at Dezeen, he set up and ran the online design magazine’s U.S. office, and interviewed everyone from Will.i.am to Zaha Hadid.

Dan graduated with a BA in Architectural Studies from Newcastle University, then spent a year in Shenzhen where he worked at an interiors studio, studied Mandarin (which he’s mostly forgotten), and ate exclusively at street markets. He moved into journalism to continue to learn, travel and meet people, and his writing can be found in several design books and across international publications.

Dan has a slightly unhealthy obsession with pop culture and an impressive meme bank. His apartment is almost entirely monochrome, aside from all the plants, and he frequently has to stop himself from ordering pizza more than once a week.
