A signage for the Common Bond Cafe in Houston

Bringing a passionate vision to life. Only for all.

Roy Shvartzapel came to us with a bold, uncompromising mission: to build the best bakery in America. His culinary fame, acquired after years at world-renowned restaurants like el Bulli, Pierre Hermé, Balthazar, and Bouley, certainly piqued our interest. But, it was his guiding philosophy – that world-class cuisine can and should be accessible to all – that won us over.

From the beginning it was clear that the brand’s personality would reflect its Houstonian roots. It had to be all about Southern hospitality but it was critical this be done not with nostalgia, but with a contemporary twist.

Both the name we developed, Common Bond, and our tagline, “Only for all”, are a direct nod to the shared vision of the partners – that the finest food should be available to all. We decided upon a circular lock-up to reference a round table: the most egalitarian way of seating.

The identity and package design amplify the simplicity, modernity and quality that lies at the heart of the brand.

It’s pretty incredible. In less than six months, Common Bond has become one of the top restaurants in Houston. Zagat named it one of the hottest restaurants in America. The Houstonian gave it four stars. In less than six months!

The colorful packaging references the flags of the world and is a nod to the accessibility of Common Bond. We decided to individualize every element of the entire 63-SKU packaging system!
